Goodbye to MySpace
January 2, 2008 on 2:21 pm | In Friends | Write a CommentI canceled my account on MySpace today. I’m really surprised I kept it this long.
It didn’t really add any value for me. Years ago, those of us “in the know” would say that AOL was like the Internet for Beginners. Once you learned enough, you’d ditch AOL for a real ISP and move on. MySpace kind of took AOL’s place.
Unfortunate now there are dozens of social networking sites: Facebook, Twitter, LiveJournal, LinkedIn, Orkut, etc. Many sites that really have little to do with networking have jumped on the bandwagon and added the ability to list friends and crap like YouTube, Digg, and Flickr. How do you maintain all this crap? Why do I need to advertise who and how many friends I have? Like it’s some sort of badge. Who cares? Who cares what my favorite song is this week?
Today on Slashdot there’s an article suggesting social network aggregation. Just what I need, yet another site to visit every day and manage all of my social networking profiles. I say fuck it all.
In a twist of irony, I’m offering a chunk of code that you may embed into your website or profile if you like that links back here to ProteinSpill:
<a href="http://proteinspill.com/"
title="ProteinSpill.com - an independent Disney Cast Portal">
<img src="http://proteinspill.com/images/psbug.jpe" /></a>
It looks like this. If you don’t already have it, I will put my full faith in my multiple spam filters and publish my email address for the first time: whimmel@proteinspill.com
Accidental Haiku
May 16, 2006 on 12:38 pm | In Friends | 1 CommentI love haiku. Especially when I write it by accident. I was chatting with emily recently about a recent visit to Independent Bar in Orlando (much better experience than Tabu, btw, but still smoky. I’m spoiled by PI in that respect). We were talking about a trio of girls who were wearing boots and vaguely 80’s outfits dancing together. [edited somewhat]
me: Yes. I was watching them closely. Especially the one with the brown dress.
em: ha
em: i dont remember the colors of their dresses so i have no idea which was which
me: One blonde two brunettes
em: im sure it was one of the brunettes
me: yes
me: she stole our candle while you all were dancing
em: sounds like a line from a song
em: or a poem
em: so emo ![]()
em: you should write it
me: "Then she stole my heart" LOL
em: "fuck you for not dancing with me!" could be the chorus
me: whoa it's already haiku!
she stole our candle
while you were out dancing
then she stole my heart
Anyway, it was fun. I’d go to I-Bar again.
Holiday Greetings
December 12, 2005 on 5:27 pm | In Family, Friends | Comments OffI just put my first batch of holiday cards in the mailbox. I’d be sending them all out together but I ran out of postage in my meter. How many geeks you know are printing their own postage this year? Haha
As I collect mailing addresses of friends and family, I think I may have to buy a second box of cards. Nuts! I hope they have some left on Thursday.
A Productive Weekday Off
August 25, 2005 on 4:53 am | In Friends | Comments OffJasmine was nice enough to give in to my badgering and let me have the day off. Aside from me giving up some overtime hours, I promised to take her somewhere nice for dinner on-property. I hope she chooses someplace I can afford
Speaking of money, I made it to the bank to deposit the other half of Pepe’s down payment. Yay!
I drove really close to to Coggin Pontiac–ok, I went down a side street and gawked into the storage area in back–to see if I could spot Ol’ Blue. I figured they would hold onto it until my loan was final but I couldn’t see it.
I had considered going in there and offering them $100 to take it back so Tracie could drive it. Oh well.
Like yesterday, for lunch I hit Publix and had another sub. Only this time I gave in and got the black & white cookie from the bakery. If you don’t know what this is, you MUST try one. It’s one of those things you have as a kid and have to have every couple of years.
I came home and continued trying to install gentoo Linux on Tracie’s PC. I kept getting stuck on the stupid gnome-vfs problem. Turns out I had to recompile libIDL. Took me two days to find that!
Around 19:30 tonight Tracy got home and IM’d me. I suggested we go to Sonny’s and get some food before I had to go back to Disney and pick up Tracie. (confused yet?)
I read she was putting her shoes back on and logged off, ran downstairs, and drove over to her house. I got there and she was gone! I called, she was in my driveway. Funny stuff! When you invite someone out, always communicate how you are going to get there. haha. Fortunately we aren’t far apart… we decided to meet at Cracker Barrel for dinner instead.
