Take One for the Team

September 12, 2006 on 11:16 am | In General Nonsense |

Some time ago when I was living in a house I had the idea of putting my and my housemate’s names on the mailbox, then adding a second mailbox (lined with a trash bag) and labelling that “Current Resident.” I always wondered if my postal carrier would get the joke–or better, actually separate our junk mail for us. I never actually followed through
Now that I live in a condominium that’s not really practical as my mailbox is in a facility with lots of other mailboxes and maybe my neighbors like junk mail. I also have a Post Office Box and there’s nothing I can do about that one.

So I started thinking… always a dangerous thing for me.

What if I legally changed my name to “Current Resident”? And then…submitted a change-of-address form to the Post Office! Would I then begin to collect everyone’s junk mail? Perhaps nationwide? That would be awesome! I could rent space next to a recycling company and just have it all delivered there directly. I’ll have to ask my Postmaster about this.

  1. And why would you want that junk mail again?

  2. Maybe you missed the title of the entry. I don’t like junk mail; I would suspect most American’s don’t either. I might be willing to “take one for the team” and eliminate the hassle for everyone else if I thought it would actually work.

I’d collect the nation’s junk mail and send it straight to a recycler.
