I want to pave highways
March 23, 2006 on 9:23 am | In General Nonsense | Write a CommentI think I would like a job paving asphalt interstate highways. Yeah, it looks like really tough work slinging asphalt with the heat and the fumes and such. But you only work like one day a month!
In Lakeland, they have one lane closed in each direction of I-4. In one night they put down several lane-miles of final friction: two lanes eastbound, one lane west. Then they put up barrels and construction signs to close off the incomplete lanes and left it. It’s been a week. Is the construction company holding the state ransom for the rest of the work or what? Sitting in traffic costs me money. It costs us all money.
Perhaps artificially increasing demand for gasoline ultimately raises prices for crude oil… which in turn increases the cost of the asphalt and the markup for the construction company. How’s that for conspiracy theories?
