Happy Birthday Tracy
March 13, 2006 on 9:38 am | In General Nonsense | 3 CommentsI feel odd today. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m operating on like 2 1/2 hours sleep right now. Maybe it’s just the Monday Blues.
Yesterday was a good day, though I got started late. I had to do laundry so I couldn’t meet Tracy at work like we planned. We managed to have a decent lunch at Beaches and Cream–and that reminds me:
What exactly is the purpose of the cast member dining discount? Is it a benefit? Seems to me it was originally created to get cast members to visit these establishments so we can sell them to our Guests. 20% of my check is supposed to be advertising, right? Well then why has it become so difficult to actually get this discount?
Tracy and I got to the Beach Club and walked over to Beaches and Cream and waited. There was nobody standing at the host(ess) stand. About 10 minutes go by and Larry comes out. He takes my name and hands me a remote, says it’ll be 10 (more) minutes. We wait. We’re seated at a table and Rachel (I think) takes our order. Several minutes go by and she brings our food to the table. We eat and she brings the check.
Now before I go on… what does this experience sound like to you? Table service?
I present my ID and she says, “Oh, we don’t do the discount here.” Ok, I say, and to Tracy I start bitching. Rachel cuts in and says, “We’re considered Quick Service here.” Right. Reread that last paragraph.
Beaches and Cream does have a Quick Service counter for ice cream on the other side of the restaurant with a separate entrance. I however am not in that area. I was served at a table. I’m getting tired of being fucked with this discount. (Last week Tracy and I went to Biergarten at Epcot and were screwed because I ate before 8pm. Food was good though, as always
)
Anyway, after our late lunch we went on to Fantasia Gardens. I’m happy to report that I did receive the proper discount there. We played on the Fairways and I sucked hard. It’s been at least 5 years since I’ve putted any sort of course and I’ve never played the Fairways before. I didn’t bother to check my score. We went to Ghirardelli’s (an operating participant and they appreciate cast members’ business too) for dessert. I took Tracy home and we napped before I had to get ready for House of Blues.
I met Tracie, Matt and Kellen there. It was a slow start, but I had a good time. At one point I went upstairs to use the mens room and saw a girl show her tits to a bartender. She didn’t walk away with a free drink, so I’m not really sure what she was trying to accomplish. heheh.

You know what’s funny? Tommy and I ate at the Pop Century food court the other day and we got the discount. Now, if that’s not Quick Service, I don’t know what is… Ok, so it’s not funny, ha, ha, more like funny, weird….

I know, while we were in the restaurant I was talking about how we would’ve gotten a discount at Port Orleans’ or Coronado’s Food Court.
The discount rules are bullshit. They should just say “we don’t want cast members dining in our popular restaurants unless they pay full price.” And list out the popular restaurants.
They can issue all cast members a special Pal Mickey that automatically updates when the rules change every 5 fucking minutes. “Oh, haha, don’t eat here until after 8:45!”

Honestly, get Disney Dining. Except that program has gone in the dumper too. But at least its accepted almost all the time, the discount applies to alcohol (even in the bars) and who working for the mouse doesn’t spend enough on alcohol to make up the cost of the program.
But your dead right on the cast discount.
