We’re On a First-name Basis?

October 24, 2005 on 6:40 am | In General Nonsense |

I spent this weekend at the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot and had a great time dodging Wilma’s onslaught of feeder bands.

Now I’m back at my computer entering all of my transactions into my Quicken register like a good boy and I notice something odd:

All of my receipts include the cashier cast member’s full name.

This not just the ones using the little Palm-based terminals but in the permanent restaurants as well. Is this necessary? Am I the first to notice?

It’s probably a by-product of the company’s use of SAP and some sort of consolidation of HR data and point-of-sale logins. However, there should be a short-name field (perhaps the nametag field?) that should be merged to appear on receipts. I certainly don’t need to know the last name of the cast member that sold me a ramekin of soup in Canada.
