A Productive Weekday Off
August 25, 2005 on 4:53 am | In General Nonsense | Comments OffJasmine was nice enough to give in to my badgering and let me have the day off. Aside from me giving up some overtime hours, I promised to take her somewhere nice for dinner on-property. I hope she chooses someplace I can afford
Speaking of money, I made it to the bank to deposit the other half of Pepe’s down payment. Yay!
I drove really close to to Coggin Pontiac–ok, I went down a side street and gawked into the storage area in back–to see if I could spot Ol’ Blue. I figured they would hold onto it until my loan was final but I couldn’t see it.
I had considered going in there and offering them $100 to take it back so Tracie could drive it. Oh well.
Like yesterday, for lunch I hit Publix and had another sub. Only this time I gave in and got the black & white cookie from the bakery. If you don’t know what this is, you MUST try one. It’s one of those things you have as a kid and have to have every couple of years.
I came home and continued trying to install gentoo Linux on Tracie’s PC. I kept getting stuck on the stupid gnome-vfs problem. Turns out I had to recompile libIDL. Took me two days to find that!
Around 19:30 tonight Tracy got home and IM’d me. I suggested we go to Sonny’s and get some food before I had to go back to Disney and pick up Tracie. (confused yet?)
I read she was putting her shoes back on and logged off, ran downstairs, and drove over to her house. I got there and she was gone! I called, she was in my driveway. Funny stuff! When you invite someone out, always communicate how you are going to get there. haha. Fortunately we aren’t far apart… we decided to meet at Cracker Barrel for dinner instead.
Jump, Maggie! Jump!
August 19, 2005 on 4:18 am | In General Nonsense | Comments OffA single engine plane crash-lands onto an iceberg in the north Atlantic. All but the pilot escape serious injury.
Robert, Linda and their young daughter Maggie are hurrying away from the crash site as thick, black smoke rises from the wreckage. Just then, there is a loud snap and a jagged line forms in the sheet of ice.
Maggie is frozen in terror as she is steadily separated from her parents.
"Jump, Maggie!" Robert screams and reaches for her across the crevasse.
"Jump, Maggie! Jump!"
Water rushes in to fill the divide and Maggie looks down to see that the ice is at least twenty feet thick above the watery depths. There’s another loud crack as boulder-sized chunks of ice fall off the face and splash below.
A frigid blast of arctic wind stings Maggie’s face and she suddenly realizes this is her last chance. She takes a few steps and leaps toward her father.
Robert slips but manages to catch Maggie by the collar of her jacket and pulls her to safety across the two-inch gap and into the Monorail just as the doors and gates are closing. The train releases a puff of air from the brakes and accelerates out of the station, headed back to the parking lot.
Saved Disney!
August 18, 2005 on 4:23 pm | In General Nonsense | Comments OffSome time ago I complained that Roy was letting savedisney.com go to waste, that it was a good resource for Disney-related news if nothing else… Well, Miracle Studios and Trivera Interactive have picked up the slack.
We now have Saved Disney. Go and check it out!
The longest 6.5 hour shift EVER
August 18, 2005 on 3:31 am | In General Nonsense | Comments OffI don’t know what it was that made it drag on. The uncomfortable weather? The relatively low attendance in the park? Not many cast to really talk to? *shrug*
I set up audience control today for the MK exit. I haven’t worked MK a/c since May 19, 1999. Insane. I’m glad I didn’t actually have to work the exit though, I was gone at 9:15.
No lunch today
August 16, 2005 on 6:43 am | In General Nonsense | Comments OffOne of the main reasons I hate working at the resort stations is that you don’t have access to FOOD. Tonight I was at the Grand Floridian with a 6 o’clock lunch. The cafeteria closes at 5:30. ugh. I had Doritos and cookies.
The other reasons are that there is nobody to talk to and it’s never particularly busy. I like the Magic Kingdom
Tracie J. was off at 10 tonight so I was trying to get ER’d. Certain coordinators are well-known for ignoring that list completely.
I’m sure with a little bit of creative schedule-juggling, several people–including me–could’ve been made happy. Instead I wound up trying to involve a manager and then actually making arrangements for a bump myself.
I managed to get myself out at 12:45. Better than nothing I guess.
House of Blues
August 15, 2005 on 7:25 am | In General Nonsense | Comments OffSunday nights I can often be found at House of Blues’ Service Industry Night in Orlando. If you actually FIND me, touch me when you try to talk to me. It’s pretty loud and I tend to tune stuff out too.
Anyway, I get there and some guy seems to be following me around. Between that and the fact that my favorite bartender, Noel, was not there tonight made me feel rather uncomfortable. I stayed anyway.
As usual, I didn’t really talk to anyone. I traded some smiles but that’s all. I don’t really like to go alone because I look like I’m alone. Then, if I go with one person I look like I’m on a date… It’d be nice if a group of my slack-ass friends would show up consistently.
I was standing by the bar near the door and this guy comes up to me, obviously with a nice buzz going.
"You work here, don’tcha?"
"No," I replied.
"Ah, well you look very professional," he says.
"Uh, thanks."
With that, he walked off into the crowd. That’s not the first time someone thought I worked there. Why is that? I wonder what he would’ve said to me if I said I was an employee.
Do I look like a bouncer or a manager? I was wearing a blue button-down shirt tucked into black slacks. I wasn’t exactly wearing HoB identification. bleh
I stuck around for a while trying to enjoy the music and finally left around 2. At least I got out of the house.
One last look at Ol’ Blue
August 13, 2005 on 7:48 pm | In General Nonsense | Comments OffI had to run by the dealer today to sign some updated forms (yay, my payment is slightly lower!) and Tracie and I swing around back to take one last look at the car that was so good to us this past year. We said our goodbyes and had an excuse prepared in case anyone asked us why we were driving all over the dealer’s lot
I got a new car!
August 10, 2005 on 11:09 pm | In General Nonsense | Comments OffSo naturally, I feel like I’m gonna hurl. I don’t think I got ripped that bad, even considering my situation. I just always feel a bit ill when I spend money.
What is it? It’s a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. Not a screamer, but it’s peppier than Ol’ Blue and it’ll be better on gas. Oh, it’s got air conditioning!
“What about this ‘Save whimmel’ stuff,” you ask? Ol’ Blue needed: power steering pump, brake pads and rotors, master cylinder, tires, shocks and struts, a/c compressor, motor mounts, oil, transmission service… The Sunfire will get me to work and back so I can continue to pay off those old debts. Keep those t-shirt orders and web site hosting orders coming!
Worst Buy and PCs
August 10, 2005 on 4:18 am | In General Nonsense | Comments OffToday I was lucky enough to give my shift away to Jasmine (Thanks!) so I ran some errands. Kim asked me to take one of her Worst Buy gift cards and pick up a Wi-fi adapter for her ancient laptop.
This time, the trip to Worst Buy really wasn’t all that painful. Someone jumped me as I went in and wanted me to see some new video game. I care very little about games, so I kept walking. When I checked out, I received about six feet of register tape for the two rebates and extra copies of the receipt. Nuts!
From there I went to Barnes and Noble. I priced The Half-Blood Prince there… It was $20 and I knew it was cheaper at Wal-Mart
I also looked in the crafts section to see if they had anything on mold-making. Some of you know what that’s about… hehe. Not ready to take it public yet.
The whole store smelled of mocha java so I left there really hungry. I went over to the Florida Mall and got some “Mall Chinese” food. On the way in a girl jumped me and wanted to do my nails (!). What the hell is that about? “It’s free!” she cried.
On my way back I checked Home Depot and Lowes to see if they had any silicone rubber (nope), then to the Post Office and home. I managed to stay dry even though the sky opened up several times while I was out. It seemed like every song I like was being played on the radio…
It was a pretty good day until I got home.
D’oh, it’s MY Fault!

Well, that’s been fixed. You’ll have to register.. again. Sorry.
